Regional Energy Issues and Solutions
Description
The energy industry is facing growing challenges these days. The increasing demand for energy to fuel economic growth globally with climate change and the need to replace conventional fossil fuel based energy resources in one hand, and transition to a more sustainable energy systems in the other hand pose staggering challenges for the industry as a whole in years to come. The major milestones are:
- Finding alternative energy resources (e.g. renewable, bio-energy and etc..);
- Integrating the new energy sources to the existing or future energy infrastructure;
- Designing future low carbon energy infrastructure;
- Energy efficiency and demand side management (e.g. waste management, better design, planning, changes of lifestyle and etc...)
- Socioeconomic-cost benefits analyses of the future energy systems;
To deal with these challenges, we need to build strong communities that work across industries and with multiple stakeholders to address these issues. Hence, having an understanding of energy issues in community and regional levels would pave the way to a more comprehensive solution globally. The aim and scope of the special issue is to provide a multidisciplinary platform for the discussion of energy related issues and solutions in community and regional levels for all researchers, scientists, engineers, technology developers, planners and policy makers working in the areas of energy management, production (including power generation, transmission and use), conversion, conservation, systems, technologies and applications, and their impact on the environment and sustainable development.
